My Major & Career Goals

My Major

It took me quite a long time to comfortably declare my major. During my junior year of high school, I realized how much I love and value athletics and how I always wanted to have them in my life. I've also always had the drive to help others in any way that I could. So, after some long consideration, I decided Physical Therapy would be the best career choice for me! Ever since I was young, I battled with a lot of major and minor setbacks due to injuries. I have a lot of experience with the pain and frustrations that are included with those injuries, so I will be able to relate and be understanding with the patients and athletes I get the pleasure to help on a more personal level.

My Career Goals

My most valued career goal is making it into a Physical Therapy graduate program to later become a licensed Physical Therapist. I have dreamed of this career since I was sixteen, and I still have just as much of a drive to achieve that goal as I did then. I want to be able to help others the same way I was when I was injured. There is no better feeling than watching someone succeed because of your hard work and help to allow them to reach their goals. I am extremely determined to pursue a career that I am going to be in love with until I retire, and I know for a fact that Physical Therapy is just that!

Steps Taken

With the physical therapy field being so competitive here at IUI, I have made it a point to try and get myself ahead of the game as much as I can. I have been a PRN Technician at IU West Hospital for a little over a year now. I have had the opportunity to work alongside physical/occupational/speech/wound therapists, clean various types of rehabilitation equipment, and communicate with patients in order to schedule reoccurring appointments. Being in that environment has taught me many aspects of the occupation that my education couldn't, and I have been so thankful for the experience!
